Jānis Liepiņš

Jānis Liepiņš debuted at the Latvian National Opera in 2014 with Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Il trovatore. Since September 2019 he is the First Kapellmeister at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, where he made his debut with Carl Orff’s cantata Carmina Burana. Along with conducting repertoire performances, Liepiņš has been the the Musical Director for several productions including Alexander Glazunov’s ballet Raymonda, Johann Strauss’ operetta Die Fledermaus, opera Carmen by G. Bizet, L’incantesimo. Pagliacci by I. Montemezzi and R. Leoncavallo, as well as a concert performance of Giacomo Puccini’s La rondine. In 2018 he assisted world-famous conductor Daniel Oren in a concert performance of Verdi’s Ernani at the Latvian National Opera. He assisted notable conductor Alexander Vedernikov with a production of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades as part of the Savonlinna Opera Festival in Finland. Jānis Liepiņš has worked with all Latvian professional symphony orchestras. In 2017 he debuted on the conductor’s podium with the Russian National Orchestra in Moscow. His accomplishments were recognised in 2013 at the Latvian Grand Music Award where he was presented with the New Artist of The Year award.
