Rihards Mačanovskis

Bass-baritone

RIHARDS MAČANOVSKIS has been a soloist at the Latvian National Opera since 2003. His achievements have been recognized with the Latvijas Gāze Annual Award for Opera 2012 and 2014 as Best Opera Soloist. In 2013 he received the Pauls Sakss Award and was nominated for the Grand Music Award for his outstanding performance of Tchaikovsky’s romances alongside with the pianist Mārtiņš Zilberts.

Artist received his musical education as part of Gurijs Antipovs class at the J. Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. He has worked with vocal coaches Margarita Gruzdeva and Hans Sotin. At the Latvian National Opera the singer has performed the roles of a Monk (Don Carlo), Foreman (Jenůfa), Claudius (Hamlet), Alidoro (La Cenrentola), Paolo (Simon Boccanegra), Surin and Tomsky (The Queen of Spades), Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Colline (La bohème), Escamillo (Carmen), Leporello (Don Giovanni), the title role in Eugene Onegin, Wolfram von Eschenbach (Tannhäuser), The President (The Immured), Jakubowsky (The Rose of Turaida), title roles in Don Pasquale, Der fliegende Holländer, Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, among others. Rihards Mačanovskis has collaborated with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. At the Riga Festival 2012 Gala Concert he sang the Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem along with the outstanding singers Elīna Garanča, Michele Crider and Josep Kan. Artist has performed concerts in Latvia, Moscow and Aix-en-Provence and participated in guest performances of the LNOB in Bergen (Norway), Dalhalla (Sweden), Bydgoszcz (Poland), Macau and Tallinn.
