Marlēna Keine is one of the most promising and young soloists, who has made her opera and operetta debuts with equal success.
Her Latvian National Opera debut was in 2014 as Barbarina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. In 2015, she sung Adele in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, and in 2016 Papagena in the educational project The Little Magic Flute, a shortened version of Mozart’s famous opera for children and families and Frasquita in Bize’s Carmen (2017). Her repertoire at the Latvian National Opera includes Musetta in Puccini’s La bohème, Yvette in Puccini’s La rondine, Maija in Liepiņš’s The Rose of Turaida, Anne in Stavinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, Norina in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Constance in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, Adele in Straus’s Die Fledermaus.
She made her opera debut during her Bachelor’s studies in 2013 as Carolina in Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto directed by Giorgio Bongiovanni and conducted by Risto Joost at the Estonian National Opera. Soon after she made her debut as an operetta singer in the role of Viola (Yola) in the Latvian Operetta Foundation’s production of Dostal’s Clivia (2014), followed by Valencienne in Lehár’s Die lustige Witwe (2015) and Daisy Darlington in Abraham’s Ball im Savoy (2016), Countess Stasi in Kalman’s Die Csárdásfürstin (2019).
Marlēna Keine has collaborated together with Latvian conductors Aleksandrs Viļumanis, Andris Veismanis, Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, Normunds Vaicis, Jānis Liepiņš, Valdis Butāns, Kaspars Ādamsons, Atvars Lakstīgala, as well as Estonian maestros Risto Joost and Vello Pähn, Spanish conductor Pedro Halfter, Polish conductors Zbigniew Graca and Tadeusz Wojciechowski, Italian conductor Fabio Mastrangelo.
She started her professional education at the Jāzeps Mediņš Rīga Music Secondary School with Krišjānis Norvelis. In 2016, she graduated with honours from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and received her Master’s Degree with Prof. Nadia Kurem. In 2014/2015, she was postgraduate student in Berlin Hanns Eisler Academy of Music with Prof. Anna Samuil.
Marlēna Keine is the laureate of several international singing competitions. She is 1st Prize winner in international Anders Wall scholarship competition in Sweden, 3rd Prize winner at the Inese Galante Vocal Competition (2016), Finalist of the 35th International Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition (2016), 1st Prize winner at the Masterworks Vocal Competition in the USA (2015) and others.
Marlēna Keine is an active member of the concert life in Latvia. Her concert repertoire includes vocal music of 21st and 20th century, Latvian, Russian, Spanish, French, German, Italian chamber music, and baroque music.
