Hailed by the beauty, clarity and flexibility of his voice, ALFONSO MUJICA is constantly in demand and invited to sing on the operatic, symphonic, oratorio and chamber music stages in Latin America.

Recent highlights include Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires),  Marcello in La Bohème at Tbilisi National Opera (Georgia), L´enfant prodigue at OSPA (Brasil) with Evelino Pidò, a new production of Don Giovanni and I Pagliacci portraying the role of Silvio at Teatro Solis (Montevideo), as debut at Teatro Bicentenario (San Juan) as Marcello in La Bohème and return to Carmina Burana.

In the Teatro Colón it was also Marcello in La Bohème (2022) with Alain Gingal as conductor , Ping in Turandot conducted by Christian Badea (2019), Carmina Burana and Lieder eines fahrenden gesellen at the by Arturo Diemecke (2016).

He sang the role of Ping in Turandot at Opera de Tenerife, España, with Giampaolo Bisanti, Conte Almaviva in Mozart ́s Le Nozze di Figaro at Rovigo, Italia, Silvio in Pagliacci, at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Belo Horizonte, Brasil, Dancaire in Carmen at ADDA, Alicante-España, a new production of Emilio Sagi. 

He sang the roles of Morales and Dancaire in Carmen at the prestigious Festival de Manaos, alongside Cristina Gallardo-Domas as Carmen under the direction of Luis Fernando Malheiro. He had an big success singing the role of Albert in Massenet ́s Werther with the Opera de Colombia conducted by Laurent Campellone.

Following his operatic debut at the Sodre in Montevideo with the title role in Gallupi ́s Il Filosofo di Campagna, he sang in Uruguay, the role of Conte Almaviva in Mozart ́s Le Nozze di Figaro, Manuel in de Falla ́s La Vida Breve, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas, Ping in Puccini ́s Turandot, Peter in Humperdinck ́s Hansel und Gretel, Morales in Bizet ́s Carmen, the roles of Joaquín and Felipe in the zarzuelas La del Manojo de Rosas and La Revoltosa, Silvio in Leoncavallo ́s Pagliacci, Angelotti in Tosca.

He made his debut at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires singing Lieder eine Fahrenden Gesellen with Arturo Diemecke in 2015, Alfonso regularly appears in the major orchestras of America singing the cycles Mahler and repertoire symphonic or oratorio: Bach, Fauré, Ravel, Falla, Duruflé.

Alfonso has specialized in the chamber music repertory, leading him to perform extensively and internationally songs with piano and guitar. His vast repertory include songs by composers of different styles and genres that range from the classical to the contemporary.

Uruguayan baritone Alfonso Mujica, studied with soprano Beatriz Pazos and at the Escuela Nacional de Arte Lírico at the Sodre in Uruguay. He obtained a scholarship from the Fondo Nacional de Música and studied chamber music repertory with Guillermo Oppitz in Buenos Aires. He was winner of the Nacional Competition “Luis Troccoli” in Uruguay and obtained Category A from the 50th Edition at the Juventudes Musicales Competition also in Uruguay.
