Conductor

An internationally renowned symphonic and operatic conductor, Ayyub Guliyev is a Principal conductor and Artistic director of the Azerbaijan State Opera and Ballet Theatre and Guest conductor of the Kunming International Philharmonic (China). Winner of the 2011 Arturo Toscanini International Competition for Conductors (Parma, Italy), Maestro Guliev has been also awarded First prizes at the Witold Lutosławski Competition for Young Conductors in Bialystok (2006), The International Conducting Competition in Craiova, Romania and the Mitropoulos International Conducting Competition in Athens among others.

Past professional career brought Mr. Guliyev to Europe, USA and Asia, conducting orchestras such as: Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, Lamoureux Symphony Orchestra, Wiener Kammerorchester, Toscanini Philharmonic, Sichuan and Kunming Philharmonic Orchestras (China), St Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra, Baku, Astana,  Kaliningrad, Zagreb and Moldova Philharmonics, Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, Slovak Chamber Orchestra, Hungarian National Symphony Orchestra, Turkey Presidential, Kirgizia and Lithuania State Symphony Orchestras, the Athens Orchestra, Baltic Sea Philharmoniс, Hermitage orchestra St.-Petersburg, the State Symphony orchestra of Azerbaijan, as well as orchestras of the Mariinsky Theatre, Belarus Bolshoi Theatre, Belgrade National Opera, Kiev State Opera, Tashkent Opera and on the stages of Carnegie Hall, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, Wiener Konzerthaus, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, The Big Hall of Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Theatre des Champs-Elysees,  Mariinsky Concert Hall, St.Petersburg Philharmonic.

One of the most decorated Azerbaijan conductors of his generation, Ayyub Guliyev was recently awarded the Golden Cross of Hungarian Order of Merit, and holds multiple national Awards and titles, including Azerbaijan Foundation “Friends of the Culture”- “The Best Musician of the Year” Award, The Best Achievement of the Year 2019 Award,  title of the Honorary art worker of the Azerbaijan Republic (2017) and annual Presidential State Prize for the musicians.

Ayyub Guliyev is currently the Associate Professor of the Conducting department of The Music Academy in Baku.

Ayyub Guliyev graduated from the Baku Musical Academy (2005) majoring in conducting and continued his postgraduate studies at N.A.Rimsky-Korsakov St.-Petersburg State Conservatory (under A. Polischuk), University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna  (with M.Stringer), European Music Academy in Teplice, Chech Republic (with J.Schlaefli) and Conducting Academy of the Berlin KammerOrchester in Vilnius, Lithuania (with prof. M.Jurowski).
