EVEZ ABDULLA studied at the Academy of Music in Baku and began his career at the Azerbaijan National Opera singing roles as Amonasro, Germont, Conte di Luna, Scarpia, Escamillo, and Rigoletto.
His recent engagements include his debut at Opera Frankfurt with Jago in Otello and Don Carlo in La Forza del Destino, a return to Opéra de Lyon for the role of Prince Kurlyatev in Tchaikovsky's The Enchantress as well as Scarpia in Tosca and Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore at National theater Mannheim, and Nabucco at the Prague National Theatre. In addition, he was scheduled to cover the role of Ruprecht in Prokofiev’s The Fiery Angel at the Metropolitan Opera in New York but the performance was cancelled due to pandemic restrictions.
In 2021/20 he performs Nabucco and Sharpless in Mannheim as well as Amonasro in Aida at Azerbaijan State Opera.
Evez Abdulla made his debuts as Frank in Puccini's Edgar for the St Galler Festspiele, as Aleko and Malatesta in Francesca da Rimini for the Scottish Opera, as Don Carlo in La forza del destino with Theater Basel, as Gryasnoy in The Tsar’s Bride at Staatsoper Berlin,and with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam in the world premiere of Franghiz Ali-Zadeh’s Nasimi Passion.
Further past engagements have included Germont at Glyndebourne Festival on tour, Miller in Luisa Miller and Nabucco for Staatsoper Stuttgart, Ruprecht in The Fiery Angel with Komische Oper Berlin and Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, as well as Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Renato in Un ballo in maschera and Don Carlo in Ernani in Mannheim, Aleko and Macbeth at Opéra de Lyon, The Protector in George Benjamin’s Written on Skin and Athanaël in Jules Massenet‘s Thaïs for Bonn Opera.
