KĀRLIS KAUPUŽS has been a lighting designer at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet since 2004, after working as a lighting electrician and assistant lighting designer at the theater since 1994.
At the Latvian National Opera and Ballet, Kārlis Kaupužs has designed lighting for such ballets as The Nutcracker, The Bright Stream, Snow White, Giselle, Cinderella, Les Gems, The Fountain of Bakhchisaray, Tango Plus. Voyages, The Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere, Karlsson Flies..., Raymonda, At the Blue Danube, Two Metres, Serenade and others. He has been on multiple tours with the Latvian National Ballet as a lighting designer.
Kārlis Kaupužs has designed lighting for many large-scale ballet and symphonic Gala Concerts, as well as large-scale productions, including No zobena saule lēca, the Song Festival Vocal Symphony Concert, and the musical Les Miserables. He has created light installations for outdoor light festivals in Riga and Liepāja. Kārlis Kaupužs is the technical producer and lighting designer of the International Baltic Ballet Competition. He has also been a lighting designer for performances at the Mikhail Chekhov Riga Russian Theater, Croatian National Opera, and Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theater.
