At the beginning of January, the Latvian National Opera has anticipated both beautiful comebacks and debuts in its performances.
The opera "Don Giovanni" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will be conducted by the Polish maestro, the distinguished interpreter of Mozart's music, Zbigniew Graca, on January 4th. Our audience has had the opportunity to enjoy Zbigniew Graca's mastery in productions such as "Cosi fan tutte," "The Magic Flute," "Don Giovanni," "Le Nozze di Figaro," and "Il barbiere di Siviglia."
In the performance on January 4th, soprano Laura Kancāne will debut in the role of Zerlina. She has previously sung roles in LNO productions such as Herdswoman in "Jenůfa", Madaļa in the opera "The Rose of Turaida," and Elsa in the performance "Sounds of Music." Meanwhile, the beloved Latvian soprano Sonora Vaice will take on the role of Donna Anna for the first time in this production.
Moreover, in Giacomo Puccini's opera "Turandot," on January 5th, the French tenor Amadi Lagha will visit our opera house for the first time, portraying the role of Calaf. Among his numerous awards, his receipt of the prestigious Caruso Prize at the Italian Cultural Institute in New York on October 9th, 2023, and the Michelangelo Cupisti Prize as the best singer of the 2017 season at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, are particularly notable. Amadi Laga performs in the most prestigious theaters in Europe and worldwide, interpreting a wide range of operatic heroes.
The performance of "Turandot" on January 5th is dedicated to the fiftieth anniversary of this production.
