Murat Karahan

Turkish tenor Murat Karahan graduated with master's degree and received his Ph.D. in Musical Arts from the Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey. He also studied at Academia di Santa Cecilia, Rome, with Prof. Bruno Cagli, and took master classes with Renata Scotto, Anna Vandi and Cesare Scarton.
 
Since 2005, Murat Karahan is a soloist of the ensemble of Ankara State Opera and Ballet.
 
Since 2012 he is a regular guest at the Latvian National Opera, Riga, where he performed many leading tenor parts like Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor and Alfredo in La Traviata, among the others.
 
His operatic repertoire includes roles such as Rodolfo in La Boheme, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Paolo Erisso in Rossini's Maometto Secondo, Edwin in Kalman's Die Csardasfurstin, Caramello in J.Strauss' Eine Nacht in Venedig, Camille De Rosillon in Die Lustige Witwe, Behlül in S.Ada's Aşk-ı Memnu, Dumuzi in Ç.Işıközlü's Inanna, as well as the tenor parts in Mozart's and Webber's Requiem, Beethoven's 9.Symphony, and in Carmina Burana.
In the 2011/12 season he was heard as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Alfredo in La Traviata, and Elvino in La Sonnambula (all in Ankara).
 
Recent and upcoming engagements include Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor (Riga, Bolshoi Theater Moscow, Rouen, Limoges, Reims), Manrico in Il Trovatore (Riga, role debut), Elvino in La Sonnambula, Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Macduff in Macbeth, Don José in Carmen (all in Ankara), Rodolfo in La Boheme, and Alfredo in La Traviata (Riga, Deutsche Oper Berlin).
