Maksim Obrezkov, a graduate of the Tbilisi State Institute for Theater, Music, and Cinema (1998), did his postgraduate studies at the Russian Theater Art Academy (2003). He has been the chief artist at the Nodar Dumbadze State Youth Theater (since 1997) and at the Yevgeni Vakhtangov Moscow Academic Theater (since 2001). He is the holder of the title Meritorious Artist of the Russian Federation and has been the author of set design and costumes for over one hundred fifty plays in Russia, Germany, Georgia, Estonia, Latvia, Belarus, Ukraine, Switzerland, and Greece. He has worked with directors such as George Kitia, Rezo Gabriadze, Tonino Gerra, Yuri Lubimov, Rim Tumin, Yuri Butusov, Dmitry Bertman, Ilya Appelbaum, Vladimir Pankov, and others. He has also created the interior for various halls and other premises at the Vakhtangov Theater, including a reconstruction for Vakhtangov’s memorial apartment. Obrezkov has regularly worked with the director Sergei Zemlyansky, designing the sets and costumes for all the performances staged by the director. In Latvia, he is known as the set and costume designer for the Liepāja Theater plays Indulis and Ārija and Precības. He has been a regular participant in exhibitions dedicated to theater art in Russia and abroad. In the 2016/2017 season, he was awarded the Spēlmaņu nakts Prize for the play Precības in the categories Set Designer of the Year and Costume Designer of the Year.
