Germans Ermičs

Scenogrāfs un kostīmu mākslinieks

Germans Ermičs is a Latvian designer. He graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands in 2011 and established his studio in Amsterdam in 2014. His practice centres on an exploration of colour, materiality and spatial perception, working across different scales — from furniture and objects to installations, interiors and spatial projects. Experimentation with glass, light and colour holds a particular place in his work.

Ermičs’ work has been exhibited internationally in galleries, museums and major design and art fairs, including Design Miami/Basel, PAD and TEFAF. He collaborates with Galleria Rossana Orlandi in Milan and Galerie Maria Wettergren in Paris. One of his best-known works, Ombré Glass Chair (2017), is part of the collection and permanent exhibition of the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Riga. In 2023, the museum presented Gradual, his first solo exhibition in Latvia.

In 2025, Germans Ermičs received the Latvian Ministry of Culture’s Award for Excellence in Culture for achievements in design at both national and international level, as well as the Spēlmaņu nakts award for Set Designer of the Year for the Dailes Theatre production Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead.

The new production of Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier at the Latvian National Opera marks Germans Ermičs’ operatic debut, for which he is designing both the sets and costumes.
