Lighting designer VALERIO TIBERI was born in Spoleto, city of the Festival of the Two Worlds (Festival dei Due Mondi) where he began his professional career. He was Assistant Lighting Designer for Teatro alla Scala from 2013 to 2018.
His experience stretches through opera, theatre, ballet and musical productions worldwide.
Since 2014 he is technical supervisor and lighting designer of the Ballet Gala Roberto Bolle & Friends and has been collaborating in productions such as Waves, La Valse, Immemoria (Teatro alla Scala), Beethoven Immortal Love (Astana), Alice in Wonderland (Tallinn), Serata Sacra, Il Lago dei Cigni (Maggio Musicale Fiorentino), Histoire de Manon (Teatro alla Scala).
He regularly collaborates in fashion shows such as Valentino, Ermenegildo Zegna, Krizia, Dolce&Gabbana, Il Gufo, Pal Zileri, Spyder, Neil Barrett.
Valerio worked in international Musical productions such as: Dirty Dancing (West End e UK tour), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Kinky Boots (Madrid), The Addams Family (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Mary Poppins (Milan), Dirty Dancing (West End & International tour), West Side Story (Genova Opera House, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino).
In Milan and Italian tours: The Bodyguard, La Divina Commedia, Newsies, American Idiot, Rent, NextToNormal, Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Frankenstein Jr, Priscilla, Gypsy, Cenerentola, Happy Days, Cats, The Producers, Grease, Cabaret, Il giorno della tartaruga, Stanno suonando la nostra canzone, Promesse Promesse, A Chorus Line, High School Musical.
Furthermore Pinocchio (Seoul & NYC), The Mission (Seoul) and Flashdance, Rugantino and Phantom of the Opera (Italian Tour & Broadway).
In opera he created the lighting design for Il Barbiere di Siviglia (director Filippo Crivelli, Teatro San Carlo - Napoli), I Due Foscari (director Grischa Asagaroff), Fille du Regiment (director Alessio Pizzech, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari) and the children opera versions of Elisir D’Amore, Cenerentola, The Magic Flute, Barbiere di Siviglia (director Grischa Asagaroff, Teatro alla Scala). Furthermore Ariadne auf Naxos (Maggio Musicale Fiorentino) and Fidelio (Maggio Musicale Fiorentino), both with director Matthias Hartmann.
He collaborated regularly with director Nicola Barloffa designing Hamlet (Opera Saint Etienne), Orfeo e Euridice, Don Carlo (St.Gallen), La Fanciulla del West (Korea National Opera), Andrea Chenier (Toulon) and Lucia di Lammermoor (Tenerife, Oviedo).
Latest productions include Nabucco (Teatro Massimo in Palermo), Idomeneo (Copenaghen), Le Malentendu (Sferisterio Opera Festival), Il Viaggio a Reims (Reims, Toulouse, Avignone, Marseille), Il Farnace (director Luca Gandini, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino) and Norma (director Andrea Cigni, Teatro Verdi di Sassari).
In 2023 he created the lighting design for Carmen, collaborating with director Matthias Hartmann and for the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb the ballet-tripple Bill, Crossing the line, with three different choreographers.
Since 2006 he teaches Lighting Design at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala.
He won the Le Maschere Award for Musical Theatre in category Best Lighting Design 2015 for Frankenstein Jr and in 2016 for Cabaret.
