After graduating with a degree in Textile Design ANNA WATKINS went to the Slade School of Fine Art in London to study Theatre Design. Afterwards she worked organising the construction of costumes for Opera, Ballet & Stage for many different companies in UK and USA, including the Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Ballet, Royal Opera House and Metropolitan Opera. In 2000, Ms. Watkins began to work for Boston Early Music Festival and worked initially organising construction of costumes, to became their costume designer some years later. In 2014, she designed the costumes for the production of the opera Jenufa, directed by Alvis Hermanis, at La Monnaie in Brussels. In 2015, Jenufa was performed also in Bologna, and Ms. Watkins was awarded the Franco Abbiati prize for Best Costumes in Italy 2015. In 2019, Anna Watkins retired, but now is delighted to help with the staging of Jenufa in Riga.
