Vladislav Sulimsky

Baritons


Vladislav Sulimsky was born in Molodechno, Belarus. He studied at the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire. Soloist with the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers from 2000 – 2004. Mariinsky Theatre soloist since 2004. Since October 2004, he has trained under Prof. R. Metre in Milan. He has taken part in master classes given by Elena Obraztsova, Dmitry Hvorostovsky, Vladimir Atlantov, Dennis O'Neal and Renata Scotto.
Vladislav Sulimsky is a prize-winner of several prestigious competitions, including International Giacomo Lauri-Volpi Competition (1st prize, Rome, 2010), International Elena Obraztsova Competition (2nd prize, Moscow, 2006), International Lisitsian Competition Competition (Grand Prix, Vladikavkaz, 2003), International Rimsky-Korsakov Competition (1st prize, St Petersburg, 2002), International Moniuszko Competition (Diploma; Warsaw, 2001). The singer has received the Grammy Award Nomination for his recording of The Nose by Shostakovich with Valery Gergiev in 2009.
His operatic repertoire includes roles such as Macbeth, Onegin, Belcore, Amonasro, Giorgio Germont, Renato, Count Di Luna, Simon Boccanegra, Rigoletto, Iago, Gianni Schicchi, Aeneas, Alberich as well Andrei Bolkonsky, Tomsky, Ford and many others. Also he performes the baritone parts in Orff’s cantata Carmina Burana, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem and Mahler’s Eighth Symphony.
Vladislav Sulimsky has toured with the Mariinsky Opera Company to the USA, Japan, the UK, Finland and France. He has performed at Malmö Opera, Stockholm Royal Opera, Baden-Badem Festival, Basel Theatre, Edinburgh International Festival, Oper Stuttgart, Bolshoi Theatre a.o. 

The season 2018/2019 sees Vladislav Sulimsky emerge as a leading exponent of the Verdi baritone repertoire. He makes his debut at the Berlin Staatsoper as Il Conte di Luna and he sings Iago in a new production of Otello at the Wiener Staatsoper.  This follows his 2018 debut at the Salzburg Festival in a new production of Pique Dame conducted by Mariss Jansons. He will also take the title role in Verdi’s Rigoletto at The Wiesbaden State Theatre.
