Johan Schinkler

Johan Schinklerstudied at the University College of Opera in Stockholm and has, since then, established himself as a sought after bass singer and actor. He has performed at all the major opera houses in Sweden such as Gothenburg Opera, The Royal Opera in Stockholm, Malmö Music Theatre, Folkoperan in Stockholm and Norrlandsoperan in Umeå.
 
At the Gothenburg Opera Johan has performed the title role in Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle and Daland in Wagner's The Flying Dutchman. At Folkoperan he has sung several Mozart roles including Leporello in Peter Stormare's acclaimed production of Don Giovanni, Figaro in the Marriage of Figaro and Don Alphonso in Cosi  fan Tutte as well as Raimondo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor. In the autumn 2006 he sang the role of Masetto in David Radoks production of Don Giovanni at Gothenburg Opera.
 
In the Spring of 2007 Johan made his debut with Värmland Opera where he sang Gurnemanzin Parsifal, and later that summer he performed Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni at  Ulriksdals Slottsteater Confidencen in collaboration with  Folkoperan.
 
In the autumn 2007 he sang Arthur in Peter Maxwell-Davies The Lighthouse directed by Mira Bartov and returned to Folkoperan as Kaspar in Linus Fellboms production of Der Freischütz by Weber.
 
Johan sang in the autumn 2008 the role of Colline in the Värmland Opera's highly acclaimed production of La Bohème directed by Peter Konwitschny.
 
Recent engagements include Colline in La Bohème and Pogner in Die Meistersinger amongst several other productions in 2010 at The Gothenburg Opera. In the autumn 2010 Johan Schinkler sang Méphistophélès in Faust at Folkoperan, in the spring 2011 Fafner in Wagner’s Ring at Värmlandsoperan, and after that followed the role of Hagen in a new production of Wagner’s Götterdämmerung at the Latvian National Opera in Riga and in a concert version at The Gothenburg Concert Hall.
 
The current season  Johan Schinkler takes on the role of Molokov in Chess at the Gothenburg Opera.
