In 2014, Joana Mallwitz will return for a production of Leoncavallo’s I pagliacci and Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana to the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen, where she conducted a series of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly in 2012. In 2013/2014, she will make her debuts with Hamburg State Opera [Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore] as well as with Göteborgs Symfoniker.
In 2012, Joana Mallwitz made her Wagner debut conducting Götterdämmerung at Latvian National Opera in Riga and returned the following year for Wagner’s Das Rheingold. In October 2013, she will conduct Das Rheingold at Macau International Music Festival.
Joana Mallwitz studied conducting with Martin Brauß and Eiji Oue as well as piano with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling and Bernd Goetzke at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hanover. Joana Mallwitz was awarded the prestigious Lower Saxon »Praetorius Musikpreis 2009« award.
In 2006, Joana Mallwitz was engaged as rehearsal pianist and conductor at German opera company of Heidelberg, from 2007 until 2011 she has held the position of ‘Second Kapellmeister’ as well as assistant to Heidelberg’s Music Director Cornelius Meister, and conducted a repertoire including Beethoven’s Fidelio, Mozart’s Idomeneo, La clemenza di Tito, Le nozze di Figaro, Strauss’ Salome, Tchaikovsky Eugen Onegin and Verdi’s Aida and Rigoletto.
