Riga Opera Festival 2023 begins!
In the twenty years since its founding, the Riga Opera Festival has become a valuable tradition. It is highly anticipated by both Latvian audiences and opera-lovers from abroad. Every summer, the festival marks the end of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet’s performance season with an overview of the best moments of the previous year, offering fans a chance to relive their favourite scenes or see what they have missed. This year’s Festival, which will take place from June 9 to 21, includes remarkable productions from the season and a Gala Concerts with internationally renowned guest artists and the Latvian National Opera’s soloists. Since 2022, the festival programme includes also ballet performances.
On June 9, the Riga Opera Festival 2023 will open with a premiere of the opera Adriana Lecouvreur by Francesco Cilea! The new production has been created by the Music Director Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, conductor Andris Veismanis, Stage Director Vincent Boussard, Set Designer Vincent Lemaire, Costume Designer Clara Peluffo Valentini, Lighting Designer Nicolas Gilli and Video Designer Nicolas Hurtevent. Cast: Tatjana Trenogina or Jūlija Vasiļjeva as Adriana, Romanian tenor Teodor Ilincăi, as well as Raimonds Bramanis or Artjoms Safronovs as Maurizio, Carmen Topciu or Irma Pavāre as Princess de Bouillon.
Iestudējumu veido muzikālais vadītājs un diriģents Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, diriģents Andris Veismanis, režisors Vensāns Busārs, scenogrāfs Vensāns Lemērs, kostīmu māksliniece Klāra Pelufo Valentini, gaismu mākslinieks Nikolā Žilī un videomākslinieks Nikolā Irtevāns. Titullomā – Jūlija Vasiļjeva vai Tatjana Trenogina, Mauricio jeb Saksijas Morica lomā – Teodors Ilinkajs, Raimonds Bramanis vai Artjoms Safronovs, Bujonas hercogienes lomā – Karmena Topčiu vai Irma Pavāre.
An opera about love, jealousy and its consequences in the 18th century France, based on true events. The talent and beauty of the celebrated actress Adriana Lecouvreur is loved and admired by theatre audiences while envied by her rivals. Adriana has fallen in love with Maurizio, the Count of Saxony. However, their relationship turns out to be part of a tragic love triangle in which the Princess of Bouillon plays a decisive role. Thanks to its outstanding music and the deeply moving story, this Italian opera is regularly staged by major arts and theatre institutions across the world. It was first performed in 1902 in Milan; this will be its third production at the Latvian National Opera.
