To mark World Opera Day and World Ballet Day, the Latvian National Opera and Ballet invites visitors on a special guided tour to discover what happens to stage costumes once a production has reached the end of its life on stage.
Accompanied by Head of the Costume Department Līga Kjapsņa, participants will visit the Latvian National Opera and Ballet’s scenery workshop complex at 2 Meirānu Street. The tour will begin with a glimpse inside the new scenery workshops, while its main destination will be the costume storage facility, where costumes from productions no longer in the Latvian National Opera and Ballet repertoire are kept.
Participants will have the opportunity to see some of the most interesting costumes in the collection, including garments that are several decades old, and learn how they are preserved, in what circumstances they may be given a new life, and what ultimately happens to costumes from productions that have been withdrawn from the repertoire.
Language of the tour: Latvian.
A ticket must be purchased for every participant of the Guided Tour, regardless of age.
Please note! Participants must make their own way to the tour location at Meirānu iela 2. The venue can be reached by public transport (Bus No. 3, Cesvaines iela stop) or by car. Parking will be available for visitors at the workshop complex.
