ASTRID KESSLER started the 2024/25 season in Cologne, where she sang the role of Chrysothemis in the new production of Elektra. She made her house debut at the Antwerp Opera in the title role of Salome by Richard Strauss. This is followed by Sieglinde in Die Walküre in Dortmund, as well as another important house debut, also with Salome at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo under the baton of Omer Meir Wellber. Last season, Astrid Kessler appeared as Abigail in Nabucco in Karlsruhe and as Freia in Das Rheingold and Gutrune in Götterdämmerung in Wiesbaden. She sang Bruckner’s Te Deum in Bonn and a Verdi gala in Ludwigsburg.
In 2023, she appeared as Elsa in Lohengrin in Dortmund, as Alice Ford in Falstaff in Stuttgart and made her extremely successful role debut as Salome at the Volksoper Vienna under Omer Meir Wellber. In the same year, Astrid Kessler appeared as Eva in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in Leipzig and in the title role in Strauss' Arabella at the Teatro Real in Madrid. Other engagements include Alice Ford in Falstaff in Stuttgart, Anna in concert performances of Puccini's Le Villi in Mannheim, Elisabeth in a new production of Tannhäuser in Essen, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus in Düsseldorf, Stuttgart and at the New National Theatre in Tokyo and a concert performance of Lohengrin at the Ludwigsburg Festival.
In 2019, Astrid Kessler enjoyed great success in Ludwigsburg as Sieglinde in a concert performance of Die Walküre next to Klaus Florian Vogt and Catherine Foster. Guest engagements have taken her to Saarbrücken as Abigail in Nabucco and to Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie as Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus. In 2017, the soprano made a guest appearance at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf in Franz Lehár's operetta Der Graf von Luxemburg as Angèle Didier. She made her role debuts in the title role of Alfredo Catalani's La Wally at the Volksoper Vienna and as Feldmarschallin in Der Rosenkavalier.
Since 2012, the artist has been part of the ensemble at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, where she has now sung almost all the important roles in her fach.
Astrid Kessler began her vocal training at the International School Seoul, South Korea. After an acting course at Oswego State University in New York, USA, she studied classical singing at the Hochschule für Musik in Nürnberg with Prof. Elisabeth Kovacs and continued her studies with Prof. Reiner Goldberg in Berlin and Prof. Peter Anton Ling in Hannover. In 2018, she won the 2nd prize at the International Meistersinger Competition in Nürnberg.
