Andreas Bauer is a highly acclaimed, internationally sought-after Opera and Concert singer, and a member of the solo-ensemble with the Frankfurt Opera. With exceptional vocal and stage expressivity and sovereign command he thrills the international press and audiences alike. The gleaming power and dark, burnished timbre of his voice make him particularly suited to the Italian repertoire. He sings the most important roles of the Noble Bass repertoire in seven different languages, confirming his stature as an exceptional and versatile artist.
Since 2013 Andreas Bauer has been a member of the Frankfurt Opera, where he has sung such roles as Philip ll, Fiesco, Lodovico, as well as King Mark, King Heinrich, Landgraf Hermann and Daland. He has also appeared as Sarastro, Commendatore, Osmin, Colline, Escamillo and the Waterspirit (Rusalka). Upcoming role debuts include the title role in Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle, scheduled for October 2017.
In 2016, Andreas Bauer enjoyed a resounding success as Mephisto (Faust) for his debut at the Latvian National Opera in Riga. In 2017/18 he will again be a guest in Riga for Mephisto, Zaccaria (Nabucco) and for his role debut as Da Silva (Ernani) – under the baton of Daniel Orens. In 2016, he also made his debut as King Heinrich (Lohengrin) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and at the New National Theater in Tokyo, and debuted at the Paris Opera as the Night Watchman (Die Meistersinger). High points in the same season were his debuts at Teatro alla Scala in Milan in the Mozart Requiem and in the Verdi Requiem at the Gasteig in Munich.
German Bass Andreas Bauer studied with Prof. Eugen Rabine in Weimar and continued his studies with Paolo Barbacini in Italy, Robert Lloyd in London, Massimiliano Bullo in Milan, and Robert Gonnella in Toulouse.
Andreas Bauer’s deep, rich bass voice has allowed him great success as a Verdi Bass, portraying Philip ll and Fiesco in Frankfurt, as well as Zaccaria in Seattle, Leipzig, Riga and Sassari. Also the role of Sarasto has brought him critical acclaim in many theaters and festivals including Frankfurt Opera, the Staatsoper and Komische Oper in Berlin, the Opéra Comique in Paris, the Semperoper in Dresden, Malmö Opera, Budapest Festival and Abu Dhabi.
In 2013, the former member of the Staatsoper in Berlin and the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg appeared in a much acclaimed staging by Marcelo Lombardero of Billy Budd in Santiago de Chile. In 2015 he sang the Hermit (Freischütz) in a new production at the Dresden Opera under the direction of Christian Thielemann, which is available on a Unitel Classica DVD.
An internationally renowned concert singer, Andreas Bauer has guested at the Teatro alla Scala, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Gasteig in Munich, the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf, the Cologne Philharmonic Hall, and the Gewandhaus Leipzig. He has also appeared in Tokyo, Osaka, Tampere, Toulouse, and at the Auditorio Nacional de Musica in Madrid. Andreas Bauer’s concert repertoire, beyond the Verdi, Mozart and Brahms Requiems, includes all the major Bass parts in currently performed Oratorios.
His performance of ELIJAH with the WDR Symphony Orchestra was broadcast live from the Cologne Philharmonic Hall. He has sung the Bass Part in live broadcasts of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at the Tokyo Suntory Hall, the Osaka Festival Hall and the Gewandhaus Leipzig. Andreas Bauer has sung under many of the world’s greatest conductors: Claudio Abbado, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, Ivan Fischer, Ádám Fischer, Andris Nelsons, Philippe Jordan, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Ingo Metzmacher, Gustavo Dudamel, Sebastian Weigle, and Christian Thielemann.
