Arturs Maskats (1957) is one of today’s brightest contemporary Latvian composers. His creative work includes choir and vocal music, as well as symphonic and instrumental compositions. He has written original scores for almost 100 productions in several theaters, and has also composed scores for films. Since 1996, Arturs Maskats has been the artisticdirector of the Latvian National Opera. The composer has been the recipient of Latvia’s Great Music Award several times and has received Latvia’s annual Theater Award for the best music in a dramatic theater play (the Dailes Theatre’s productions Vācietis. November. A Piano Concert. and Jorge Luis Borges’ Tango). The Tango production is also associated with the composer’s most significant international success.
