Sergey Nayda

Tenor

Russian tenor Sergey Nayda was born in Ulan-Ude/Sibira and completed his vocal studies at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moskow under Prof. Irina Arkhipova and Prof. Zurab Sotkilava. After winning the Mario del Monaco Vocal Competition in 1993 Sergey Nayda was engaged with the Marinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg where he remained as an ensemble member until 1999, and still today performs time and again. Following that period he performed in various productions with the Kirov Opera and sang at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moskow a soloist under Valery Gergiev.

Engagements thereupon included performances at the world's most famous opera houses:Metropolitan Opera New York, Teatro Municipal in Santiago,Chile, Théâtre des Champs Élysées in Paris, Opéra National de Lyon, Opéra de Montpellier, and Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, France, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Teatro Real Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, and Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao, Spain, Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos in Lissabon, Rotterdam Oper and Concertgebauw Amsterdam in te Netherlands, Grand Théâtre de la Ville in Luxembourg, National Opera Seoul, Tokyo National Opera, and more. Sergey Nayda has also given numerous guest performances at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and at the New Israeli Opera Tel Aviv. 

Nayda's most recent successes include "Otello" performed in Darmstadt under Marc Albrecht, in Graz under Philippe Jordan, and in the Theatre de la Monnaie in Brussels, in Geneva, Shanghai, Tampere in Finland, as well as in Estonia and Oslo. He sang Arrigo in "I Vespri siciliani" in Darmstadt, Calaf in Turandot and Alexei Ivanovich in Prokofiev's "The Gambler" in Wiesbaden; Manrico in "Il Trovatore" in Mannheim, Essen and Hannover; Don Alvaro in "La Forza del Destino" at the Opera di Rouen; Carlo VII in "La Pulzella di Orleans" at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo; Radames in "Aida" in Bremen, Madrid and at the Marinsky-Theatre; Gherman in "Pique Dame" at the Gotheburg Opera in Sweden, at the Theatre de la Monnaie in Brussels and Riga. He also performed at a Gala concert at the Wiener Staatsoper in Vienna, and sang the part of Turiddu in "Cavalleria rusticana" and Canio in "I Pagliacci" in Essen, and gave a concert performance at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

Audiences have also enjoyed the versatile tenor at many music festivals around the world including the Katia Popova Festival in Bulgaria (Alfredo in "La Traviata"), the St. Petersburg White Nights under Valere Gerigiev (Lady Macbeth by Mzensk), the Kessari Antic Theatre Tel Aviv (Otello), the Festival d'Orange under Valery Gergiev (Dmitri in "Boris Godunov"), and in Bregenz (The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitesh) and St. Margarethen in Austria (Calaf in "Turandot"). Sergey Nayda has worked with several famous conductors such as the already mentioned Maestri Gergiev, Albrecht and Jordan. Among many other conductors Vladimir Fedoseyev, Antonio Pappano and Anton Guadagno are especially worth mentioning.
