NORMUNDS ŠNĒ has studied the oboe and conducting at the Latvian Academy of Music and with such teachers as Vilnis Pelnēns, Heinz Holliger, Tamara Fidler, Yuri Simonov, Jorma Panula, and Imants Resnis.
Since 2007, he is professor of oboe at the Latvian Academy of Music. From 1978 to 1997, he worked as second oboe in the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2006, he is Artistic Director of the State Chamber Orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga. In 1999, he founded the Riga Festival Orchestra. From 1987 to 2006 he was Founder and Artistic Director of the chamber orchestra Rīgas kamermūziķi. Normunds Sne has also collaborated with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (1996-1998) and the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra (1997-1998). Since 1998, he is conductor at the Latvian National Opera.
Normunds Sne has been oboist, guitar-player and sound engineer for the progressive Latvian rock bands Salve, Sīpoli, Pērkons and Marana as well as producer and mastering engineer for a variety of CD recordings.
Normunds Sne gas performed together with Peter Donahoe, Isabelle Faust, Martin Fröst, Patrick Gallois, David Geringas, Tatyana Grindenko, Natalia Gutman, Gidon Kremer, Christian Lindberg, Truls Mjørk, Crispian Steele-Perkins, Terje Rypdal, Mstislav Rostropovich, Joe Zawinul and others.
His performances outside Latvia include concerts in Australia, Austria, Denmark, France, Italy, Japan, Russia, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, and Sweden.
Normunds Sne is a passionate amateur radio operator, 1980 world champion, 2nd place in the 2006 European Championship, Member of the Board of the Latvian Amateur Radio League.
