Already during his studies at the Music Academy of Poznan, Polish bass Marek Gasztecki made his debut at the Poznan Opera House in the role of Theseus in Britten´s „A Midsummernight´s Dream“. He is a prize winner of the International voice competition in Toulouse, France. He was a member of the German opera houses of Darmstadt and Nürnberg. In 1994 he was awarded “Young artist of the year” by the opera magazine “Opernwelt”. The same year he started his international freelance career.
He sang in several productions at the Teatro alla Scala („Zauberflöte“ with Riccardo Muti. „Les Troyens“ with Sir Colin Davis, „Salome“ under the baton of Myung Whun Chung), at the Theatre la Monnaie in Brussels (“Meistersinger von Nürnberg” conducted by Antonio Pappano), Zürich Opera (“Le nozze di Figaro” with Nicolaus Harnoncourt), De Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam (“Wozzeck” staged by W. Decker , “Krol Roger” staged by J. Schaaf, both conducted by Hartmut Haenchen), Detroit (“Der Fliegende Holländer” conducted by John Mauceri), Edinburgh Festival (“Mazepa” staged by Peter Stein and conducted by Kirill Petrenko), Salzburg Festival (Busoni´s “Doctor Faust” with Kent Nagano and Peter Musbach), Paris (“Die schweigsame Frau” with Christoph von Dohnanyi), Hamburg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Wiesbaden, Tokyo (world premiere of “The vision of Lear” by T. Hosokawa, recorded by NHK), Beijing (“Tristan und Isolde” with the China Philharmonic Orchestra).
As a much sought after concert soloist he toured Europe, Japan, China, both North and Southamerica as well as Israel. He sang Verdi´s “Requiem” with the Osaka Symphony Orchestra, Rossini´s “Stabat mater” with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Schönberg´s “Gurrelieder” with the Nacional Orquesta Sinfonica d`Espana, Janacek´s „Glagolitic Mass" with the Orchestra Accademia Santa Cecilia conducted by Myung Whun Chung, Mahler´s Symphony no.8 with the China Philharmonic Orchestra, Haydn´s „Nelson Mass“ conducted by Michael Gielen and Bach´s Mass in h minor with the Orchestra Maggio Musicale Fiorentino under the baton of Ivor Bolton.
Marek Gasztecki´s repertoire contains more than 120 operatic roles as well as 55 concert works.
