JŪLIJA GURVIČA graduated from the Riga Choreography High School in 1991 and started her career as a soloist of the LNO Ballet Company.
Her roles include Giselle, Medora, Swanilda, Katarina, Kitri, Aurora, Marie, Odette-Odile, Ballerina in The Bright Stream, as well as the title roles in Romeo and Juliet and Firebird and most recently Madame de Tourvel in Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Marie in The Fountain of Bakhchisaray.
The prima ballerina appears also in contemporary choreographies. Julija Gurviča has performed with the LNO worldwide including Israel, Germany, France, Norway, Sweden and Finland.
She is the laureate of the First Sergei Diaghilev International Competition in Moscow (1992), received The Best Latvian Ballet Soloist prize (for the title role in La Sylphide, 1995), the Annual Aldaris Award as the best ballet performer (2000), the Latvian Great Music Award (2001), Tangijeva-Birzniece Award of the Latvian Theatre Association (2005), the LNO's patron Latvijas Gāze Annual Award as the Best Ballet Artist (2010) and Latvian Theatre Award as Ballet Artist of the Year (2010).
