Since 1982 till 1991 she was a soloist of the Latvian National Opera (she debuted as a Gipsy in Smetana's The Bartered Bride). During this period she appeared as the Snow Maiden, Lucia, Gilda, Marguerite, Adina, Violetta, Rosina, Micaëla, Prilepa (The Queen of Spades), Magda (La Rondine) a.o. She was a frequent guest singer at the Mariinsky theatre in St Petersburg, but didn't sing in West Europe, because of "the iron curtain". Great maestros Yehudi Menuchin and Zubin Mehta advised her to go to USA, but unfortunately they couldn't help the situation.
Only in 1991 Inese Galante moved to Germany, where she lives now. Till 1999 she was a soloist of the Manheim opera theatre (debuted as Pamina), and the Deutsche Opera im Rhein in Düsseldorf (debuted as Donna Elvira). Her repertoire was enriched by such characters as Leonora (Il Trovatore), Mimì, Euridice, Nedda, Cio-Cio-san, Liù, Freia (Das Rheingold) and Naiad (Ariadne auf Naxos).
She performs on the greatest opera stages of Germany, France, USA and Israel. She is invited to sing in the most prestigious concert halls of Switzerland, Belgium, Luxemburg, Australia, South Korea, France and Holland. Among her countless concerts some ones are worth mentioning: the participation in the celebration of Mstislav Rostropovich's 70th anniversary in France in 1997; the performance of Iolanta in the Théâtre des Champs Élysées (conductor Vassily Sinaisky); the gala with José Carreras in Rotterdam in 2001. Frequently she sings in such famous London's venues as the Barbican Hall, the Wigmore Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. In 2001 she gave a charity solo concert on the Royal Family invitation in the Kensington Palace.
The singer has vast opera and chamber music repertoire. The characters of Puccini's and Verdi's operas (Mimi, Violetta, Liu, Gilda, Leonora, Butterfly) are among her favourites.
Since 1989 Inese Galante has been a star of CAMPION RECORDS, having 9 CDs under this label (she was also awarded Gold, then Platinum discs for the continuing sales of her CD Debut, released in 1995). The CD Arietta was recognized by BBC to be the best in the nomination of classical music (2000). The CD of opera arias by Tchaikovsky (BMG, the Royal Opera orchestra, conductor Neeme Järvi) was considered to be exceptionally brilliant, marking out the Scene of Tatyana's letter as the best interpretation of recent 20 years. The CD Arias from Verdi's late operas got the GRAMOPHONE magazine editor choice (October, 2003). In 2002 worldwide sales of all CDs featuring Inese Galante exceeded 200 000.
Inese Galante has cooperated with such famous conductors as Yehudi Menuhin, Kent Nagano, Myung-Whun Chung, Valery Gergiev, Antonio Pappano, Steven Mercurio, Miguel Gomez-Martinez, Vladimir Fedoseyev, NeemeJärvi, Eri Klas, Vassily Sinaisky etc.
In 2001 Inese Galante had great success in the Moscow Kremlin (accompanist Inna Davidova). In 2002 she made her debut at the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre performing the title role in Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur. In 2003 she performed Aida for the first time on the Latvian National Opera stage and in the guest performance of the LNO in Moscow. In 2003 she debuted on the UK opera stage, singing Aida at the Scottish Opera Glasgow and then in Edinburgh and Liverpool. In 2004 she appeared as Lisa in The Queen of Spades at the Estonia Opera Theatre in Tallinn.
