Soprano Asmik Grigorian was born into an Armenian-Lithuanian family in Vilnius, Lithuania. At the music university of her city of birth she studied piano and voice before attending numerous master classes (with Mirella Freni and Oliviera Miljakovic for example).
In the 2014/15 season she can be heard as Judith in Bluebeard's Castle in Wiesbaden and at the Vlaamse Opera and also with the title role in Halévy's La Juive in Ghent and again in Antwerp. Further projects include the title roles in Tchaikovsky's Tsarodejka at the Theater an der Wien, and in Puccini's Madama Butterfly at the Royal Swedish Opera, as well as Tatjana in Eugen Onegin in St. Petersburg and at the Komischen Oper Berlin.
In recent seasons she performed Rusalka (title role) and Maria/Mazeppa at the Komischen Oper Berlin, Marie/Wozzeck and Georgetta/Il Tabarro at the Cologne Opera, and sang Desdemona/Otello, Liza/Pique Dame and Rusalka under the baton of Valery Gergiev at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. She could also be heard as Liza in Pique Dame at the Opera Graz and at the Staatsoper Hamburg and as Micaela/Carmen at the Bayerischen Staatsoper in Munich.
In June 2010 she gave her debut with all three main female roles in Puccini's Il Trittico in a new production of this opera in the framework of the Riga Opera Festival at the Latvian National Opera.
In 2004 she gave her stage debut as Desdemona in Verdi's Otello at the Opera Batumi (Georgia), in 2005 she had a triumphal success when giving her debut as Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata at the Opera Vilnius - for this acclaimed debut she was awarded the Golden Cross of Lithuania in arts. The title part in La Traviata brought her also to the Opera of Yerevan (Armenia) and the Latvian National Opera Riga, where she has since then sung in numerous new productions. Since 2006 Asmik Grigorian has sung regularly at the Mariinsky Theater St. Persburg, the Bolshoi Theater Moscow and the Wigmore Hall London as well.
