Ticket sales for performances at the beginning of year 2024. “Faust” and “The Birds’ Opera” back to the repertoire
Ticket sales for the Latvian National Opera and Ballet performances in January, February, and March of 2024 will start on Tuesday, June 20th, at 11:00 a.m. At the beginning of next year, two beloved productions will return to the Great Stage of the Latvian National Opera: from January 11th, "The Birds’ Opera” for children by Jānis Lūsēns and Māra Zālīte, and from February 22nd, Charles Gounod's opera "Faust".
Jānis Lūsēns and Māra Zālīte's "The Birds’ Opera" is one of the all-time favorite performances for children in Latvia. More than 150 shows of this production have been performed so far. The kind-hearted Doctor Doolittle and his friends are always ready to help someone in need. The colourful birds and resourceful animals always stand strong: they solve the mysterious disappearance of a canary, are quick to put out a fire and even put on a fantastic opera! "The Birds’ Opera" was created by the Stage Director Baņuta Rubesa, the Choreographer Elita Bukovska, the Set Designer Ieva Jurjāne, the Costume Designer Kristīne Jurjāne, and the Lighting Designer Pauls Matīss. "The Birds’ Opera" was first staged in year 2000 and has undergone several revivals.
The plot of Charles Gounod's opera "Faust" is inspired by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's famous tragedy. Doctor Faust is tormented by the feeling he’s wasted his life. The mysterious Mephistopheles promises to make all of the aging scientist’s wishes come true - in exchange for Faust’s soul… Director Aik Karapetian’s has put together a production in the late-gothic aesthetic, also employing silent movie techniques in the style of German expressionism. The set design of the production is by Kristaps Skulte, costumes by Kristīne Pasternaka, lights by A.J. Weissbard, and the video by Artis Dzērve. The production of “Faust” received The Great Music Award of Latvia as the Best Musical Production 2016. A recording of the production was shown on the European cultural channel ARTE.
Tickets can be purchased at the box office of the Latvian National Opera, as well as online.
