The world premiere of Manga opera "War Sum Up" at the Latvian National Opera

The world premiere of manga opera War Sum Up. Music. Manga. Machines by British symphonic pop orchestra The Irrepressibles and Latvian composer Santa Ratniece will take place at the Latvian National Opera on September 2. 

War Sum Up is a manga opera about the nature of war, about ghosts, superheroes and post traumatic stress disorder. Follow the Warrior, the Spy and the Soldier through their transformation into a world of light and dark, battle and death – from man to machine, to statue, ghost and fantasy heroine….

War Sum Up is the result of a unique cooperation between Hotel Pro Forma and the Latvian National Opera, with Kirsten Dehlholm as director. The British symphonic pop orchestra The Irrepressibles and the Latvian composer Santa Ratniece are composing the new music, which is performed by twelve singers from the Latvian Radio Choir, under its conductor Kaspars Putnins. The Danish fashion designer Henrik Vibskov is creating the costumes, and the lighting designer Jesper Kongshaug is providing the lighting with his usual contextual flair.

War Sum Up is sung in Japanese with surtitles in English and Latvian.

Following performances of War Sum Up in the Latvian National Opera will take place on September 3 and October 16 and 17.

War Sum Up will be performed also in Denmark at Odense Theatre on October 24 – 25, at The Music and Performing Arts Centre in Aarhus on October 27 – 28 and The Royal Danish Theatre on November 10– 11.
