The Riga Opera Festival will take place on June 8-19
The annual Riga Opera Festival 2011 will take place on June 8–19. The festival offers the overview of the Latvian National Opera’s most successful productions. Along with some of the pearls of the LNO’s repertoire, „the golden repertoire” (Puccini’s Turandot andMadama Butterfly, Verdi’s Aida, Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer), this summer’s program includes the new productions of the season 2010/2011 – Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia (cond. Modestas Pitrenas, dir. Aik Karapetian), Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin(cond. Mikhail Tatarnikov, dir. Andrejs Žagars), and Latvian composer Bruno Skulte’s The Heiress of Vilkači (cond. Andrejs Jansons and Aigars Meri, dir. Ināra Slucka), as well as some the most interesting productions of previous seasons (Puccini’s Il Trittico, Mozart’s Don Giovanni) and the Riga Opera Festival concert – Verdi's Requiem.
“This year, we have assembled a roster of artists to be truly proud of. The performances will led by excellent conductors: Modestas Pitrenas, Hirofumi Yoshida, Mikhail Tatarnikov, Ainārs Rubiķis, and Andrejs Jansons. Some of the internationally most celebrated Latvian soloists will return to Riga: Egils Silins and Inga Kalna. We will also have the opportunity to experience exciting soloists from other countries, like Emma Vetter, Liubov Sokolova, Dinara Alieva, Irina Shiskova, Carlos Moreno, Gustavo Porta,Corby Welch, and Kosma Ranuer. The most distinguished soloists of our ensemble – Liene Kinča, Jānis Apeinis, Samsons Izjumovs, Andris Ludvigs and Raimonds Bramanis – will perform some of their most popular roles. Another highlight will be Bruno Skulte’s opera The Heiress of Vilkači which will have its scenic world premiere in June,” says Andrejs Žagars, General Director of the Latvian National Opera
