The New Year Gala concerts at the LNO

The Latvian National Opera invites you to the New Year Gala concerts on Decmeber 28, 29 and 30. The outstanding quest artists, the LNO soloists, the LNO Choir and Orchestra under the baton of Modestas Pitrenas will participate in The New Year Gala concerts at the LNO.

"She is listed as a mezzo-soprano, but there are few mezzos -- if any -- like her. She's the first singer this writer has heard who could rip the gilding off the walls of the Landmark. This woman has been given a true gift, and she is utilizing it to the hilt. Her range is almost frightening," some critic praised performance by Jeniece Golbourne. She sings leading roles at the many operas in USA and Germany.

During the last seasons, the bass baritone Donovan Singletary has often appeared on the stage of The Metropolitan Opera. He has also sung at the Fort Worth Opera and Seattle Opera. He has performed with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonic and made his Carnegie Hall debut. Donovan Singletary is a Metropolitan Opera National Council Grand Finals Winner, where he was the youngest competitor, and won the Met's then-General Director, Joseph Volpe Award. He is also a top prize winner in several other competitions.

 

One of the most celebrated Latvian soloists, the bass baritone Egils Siliņš has performed at many of the world´s leading opera houses, including La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro del Liceu, Mariinsky Theatre, Opernhaus Zürich, Chicago Opera, Staatstheater München, among others. "As Dutchman, Silins has the charismatic hauteur of a Byronic hero, and his voice and bearing convey tremendous depths of existential defiance and despair," wrote Tim Ashley at The Guardian after Siliņš debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden this autumn. Egils Siliņš has won ten international competitions, and received the Latvian Great Music Award twice.

The brilliant soloists of the LNO - soprano Inga Šļubovska and tenor Andris Ludvigs will perform together with the guest stars.

The soloists and the LNO choir will sing classical opera repertoire by Georges Bizet, Gioachino Rossini, Giacomo Puccini, Charles Gounod, Camille Saint-Saëns. Operetta fans will enjoy melodies by Jochann Strauss. The concert will end with the music by George Gershwin and spirituals.
