Puccini’s masterpiece “Toska” returns on October 4th
On October 4th Giacomo Puccini’s masterpiece Toska returns to the stage of the Latvian National Opera. Creative team of production: conductor Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, stage director Dmitry Bertman, set designer Andris Freibergs, lighting designer Kevin Wyn-Jones, costume designer Kristīne Pasternaka and video artist Katrīna Neiburga.
Cast: Liene Kinča, Aleksandra Antoņenko or Andris Ludvigs, Samsons Izjumovs, Viesturs Vītols or Romāns Poļisadovs, Krišjānis Norvelis, Guntars Ruņģis, Kārlis Saržants, Rihards Mačanovskis and Mariss Lakstīgala.
In the production of the director Dmitry Bertman the passion between opera diva Toska and artist Cavaradossi resonates in the gorgeous interiors of Rome. Luxurious premises have become also a background for the peripetias and denouement of the relationship between Toska and Baron Scarpia, the chief of the secret police, that culminates in Toska’s subconscios in the last act. Main roles will be interpreted by brilliant soloists – Liene Kinča, Aleksandrs Antoņenko or Andris Ludvigs and Samsons Izjumovs.
The premiere of the production was on March 13, 2004.
