Premiere of Verdi’s Macbeth on February 26

Premiere of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Macbeth will take place at the Latvian National Opera on February 26.

Musical director of the new production is Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, stage director – Viesturs Meikšāns, set designer – Reinis Suhanovs, costume designers MAREUNROL’S, video artist -8, chroreographer Linfa Mīļā. Cast of Macbeth includes Vladislav Sulimsky, Samsons Izjumovs, Armands Siliņš (Macbeth), Tatiana Melnychenko, Yulianna Bavarska (Lady Macbeth), Krišjānis Norvelis, Romāns Poļisadovs (Banco), Sergey Polyakov, Andris Ludvigs (Macduff) a.o.

The victorious war general Macbeth listens to the prophesies of three witches, who say he will one day be king of Scotland. Macbeth and his wife are overcome by an uncontrollable desire for power, but the road to the throne is bathed in blood and leads only to insanity and death... Macbeth is Giuseppe Verdi’s tenth opera and his first to be inspired by William Shakespeare – whose Macbeth Verdi had loved since his youth. Some will recognize director Viesturs Meikšāns and set designer  Reinis Suhanovs for their successful  production of Kristaps Pētersons’ opera-lecture Mikhail and Mikhail Play Chess, which received numerous awards.
