Murat Karahan will appear as Calaf in “Turandot”, on April 1

After a longer break, the notable Turkish tenor Murat Karahan will appear on the stage of the Latvian National Opera, singing the role of Calaf in Giacomo Puccini’s opera Turandot.

His stage partners will be Sandra Janušaitė in the title role, Jūlija Vasiļjeva as Liù and Edgars Ošleja as Timur. The performance will be conducted by Mārtiņš Ozoliņš.

Previously Latvian spectators have had a change to listen to Murat Karahan as Edgardo in the opera Lucia di Lammermoor, des Grieux in opera Manon Lescaut and Manrico in Il trovatore. Singer has performed also in the gala concerts of the Latvian National Opera.

Murat Karahan regularly sings in opera theatres in Ankara and Istanbul, the Berlin Deutsche Oper, Wiener Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper, Frankfurt Opernhaus, Arena Verona, opera houses in Naples, Salerno and Palermo, Finnish National Opera, and elsewhere. Since 2018, Murat Karahan works also as the Administrative and Artistic Director General of the State Opera and Ballet of Turkey.

His repertoire includes Rodolfo (La bohème), Calaf (Turandot), Alfredo (La Traviata), Macduff (Macbeth), Don Ottavia (Don Giovanni), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Count (Rigoletto) and other roles, as well as tenor parts in Mozart’s Requem, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Requem and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.
