Five debuts in the Mozart's opera "Don Giovanni" on January 13
Five debuts are expected in the production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera "Don Giovanni" on January 13. Conductor Kaspars Ādamsons, singers Jānis Apeinis, Marlēna Keine, Dainis Kalnačs and Daniils Kuzmins will take part in this production for the first time.
"Mozart's “Don Giovanni” is an iconic opera steeped in tradition, also in this opera house. It is the first time I will conduct this opera, and I happen to be working with a gorgeous bouquet of soloists, each of whom has his own stage experience - for some it is the first time, for others it is far from the first, but it is the debut in this production, as it is for Jānis Apeinis. We benefit from each other in the creative process. With great interest and genuine joy I look forward to the next week, when we will meet the orchestra and choir on the Great Stage and be close to the moment of our debut," says conductor Kaspars Ādamsons.
This will be the fifth production for the baritone Jānis Apeinis, in which he will interpret Don Giovanni. He has sung the role in two previous productions of the Latvian National Opera, as well as in Severodonetsk Opera in Ukraine and in Estonia.
The role of Zerlina will be interpreted for the first time by soprano Marlēna Keine, who has already sung many important roles at the Latvian National Opera, including Norina in "Don Pasquale", Lelde in "I Played, I Danced", Adele in the operetta "Die Fledermaus", Maija in "The Rose of Turaida" and others.
For the tenor Dainis Kalnačs and baritone Daniils Kuzmins these will be the first significant operatic roles of their careers. Dainis Kalnačs will interpret the role of Don Ottavio. The singer's debut on the stage of the Latvian National Opera took place in September 2022 in the role of Raoul de St Brioche in the operetta "Die Lustige Witwe". Before turning to opera singing, Dainis Kalnačs studied medicine and is still working as a doctor. Daniils Kuzmins, who will make his debut in the role of Mazetto, was introduced to a wider audience last autumn, when he represented Latvia at the International young vocalists’ competition “Operalia”. He is an artist of the Latvian National Opera Chorus.
The same cast will sing also on January 21.
The production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's 18th Century opera "Don Giovanni" at the Latvian National Opera was staged last season by the Argentinian stage director Marcelo Lombardero. In the hands of the creative team, the opera "Don Giovanni" has become an ironic and black comedy.
Tickets to the opera are available for purchase at the box office of LNO as well as ONLINE.
