August - the Month of Ballet

In August, the Latvian National Ballet invites audiences to enjoy a diverse and artistically vibrant programme of performances.
This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the highlights of both classical and contemporary ballet at the close of summer, with each viewer sure to discover a story and choreographic language that resonates with them.
The first performance – Peer Gynt, a ballet by audience favourite choreographer Edward Clug set to the music of Edvard Grieg – will take place on 15 August. On 17 August, we invite you to see Nijinski, a contemporary ballet by renowned German choreographer Marco Goecke, set to the music of Frédéric Chopin and Claude Debussy. On 22 August, choreographer Krzysztof Pastor’s Dracula, set to the music of Wojciech Kilar, will be performed. On 24 August, audiences can immerse themselves in the summer solstice atmosphere of choreographer Aivars Leimanis and composer Juris Karlsons’ ballet Antonija #Silmači. Choreographer Kenneth Tindall and composer Kerry Muzzey’s neoclassical ballet Casanova will delight audiences on 27 August. The summer ballet programme will conclude with the jewel of classical ballet – Swan Lake – in two performances on 29 and 30 August.
The new season will open on 5 September with a festive Gala Concert featuring both opera and ballet, offering a glimpse of the most memorable productions from past seasons and a preview of what lies ahead in the coming year.
Tickets are available at the LNOB box office and online.
