The Romanian tenor TEODOR ILINCĂI has already made guest appearances at the world’s most important opera houses, among them Opera Australia, the San Diego Opera, the New National Theatre Tokyo, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, Opéra National de Paris, Opéra de Marseille, Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, Vienna Staatsoper, Teatro Real in Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Arriaga de Bilbao, Teatro de la Maestranza, La Monnaie/De Munt, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Semperoper Dresden, Oper Frankfurt, Hamburgische Staatsoper and Bayerische Staatsoper Munich.

Recent highlights include Calaf (Turandot) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Dusseldorf, Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago as well as in a new production at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, a gala concert with Kristīne Opolais at the Palace of Arts (Müpa) in Budapest, his debuts as Canio (I pagliacco) and Radames (Aida) at the National Theater in Bucharest and at the Opera Nationala Romana din Timisoara, Pinkterton (Madama Butterfly) and Cavaradossi (Tosca) at the Dresden Semperoper and the Berlin Staatsoper, Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) in Paris, London, Vienna, San Diego and at the Opéra Municipal de Marseille, Calaf (Turandot) in Tokyo, Don José (Carmen) at the Hamburg Staatsoper and Turiddu (Cavalleria Rusticana) in Barcelona, Brussels and Hamburg.

His repertoire also includes such parts as the title role in Don Carlos, Alfredo (La traviata), Macduff (Macbeth), Fritz Kobus (L’amico Fritz), Pollione (Norma), Maurizio (Adriana Lecouvreur), Romeo (Romeo et Juliette), Faust (Margarethe) and Lensky (Eugene Onegin).

After studying to be an oboist, he studied Byzantine music and music education at the conservatoire in Bucharest before commencing his professional career in the city at the Romanian National Opera. At the early age of 25, he sang Macduff there in Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth. Later that year, he sang the part at the Hamburg Staatsoper, debuted as Ismaele in Verdi’s Nabucco at the Vienna Staatsoper and as Rodolfo in Puccini’s La bohème at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.

Teodor Ilincăi has won prizes at the Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition in Barcelona, the Great Tenors Tournament in Szczecin (Poland) and the Ludovic Spiess Prize of the Romanian Music Forum.
