Kamen Chanev graduated the National Academy of Music in Sofia. He specialized in Rome in Boris Christoff’s Academy. He is laureate of the Jussi Bjoerling Competition, Sweden. In 1992 he debuted at the Sofia National Opera, as Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto. After five seasons he moved to Prague, where he sang two years long before becoming a free lancer. His prospering career lead him to performing on the big opera stages in Europe, Asia and USA, including Atlanta, Philadelphia, Auckland, Montreal, Seoul, Amsterdam, Terracina, Dortmund, Tokyo, Beijing, Tel Aviv and elsewhere. He has made contracts with the Vienna State Opera, Arena di Verona, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Berlin State opera, Deutche Oper Berlin, Oper Frankfurt, Hamburg State Opera, Opernhaus Zürich, La Fenice, Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona), Rome Opera House, Hungarian State Opera, Polish National Opera, Washington National Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Savonlinna Festival etc. The singer’s repertoire is varied and includes main roles in such operas as Andrea Chénier , Aida, Don Carlo, La Traviata, Rigoletto, Cavalleria rusticana, Il trovatore, Madama Butterfly, Tosca, Carmen, Pagliacci, Faust, Il Barbiere di Sevilla and many others, as well as the tenor parts from the cantata-oratorio works Symphony No. 9 by Beethoven, Requiem by Mozart, Verdi and Dvořák, Stabat Mater by Rossini, Symphony No. 8 by Mahler.
