ARTIS DZĒRVE graduated from the Faculty of Stage Art at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg, where he studied under Marina Abramović. He has more than 20 years of professional experience in the field of audiovisual and interactive art. Alongside his work in video advertising, installations, video mapping projects, 2D and 3D animation, and his teaching activities at RISEBA University of Applied Sciences, Artis Dzērve creates video design for theatre and opera productions.
He has collaborated with numerous renowned directors, including Marie-Ève Signeyrole, Aik Karapetian, Indra Roga, Oskaras Koršunovas, Alexander Morfov, Dž. Dž. Džilindžers, Edmunds Freibergs, Laura Groza, Oļegs Šapošņikovs, Gaļina Poļiščuka, Vladislavs Nastavševs, Viktors Runtulis, Rolands Atkočūnas, Režija Kalniņa, and others.
At the Latvian National Opera and Ballet, his video works have been created for the ballets Karlsson Flies… (2013), Bolero… (2015), and Antonija #Silmači (2018), as well as for the operas Carmen (2017), Faust (2016), and L’incantesimo. Pagliacci (2019). For Faust, Artis Dzērve received the Latvian Theatre Award Spēlmaņu nakts in the category Video Artist of the Year.
In 2018, in collaboration with director Aik Karapetian, he created the video design for the opera Carmen at Opéra national de Montpellier in France. His most recent works in the opera genre have been created in collaboration with director Marie-Ève Signeyrole and include Medea at Opéra Comique in Paris (2025), Macbeth at Deutsche Oper Berlin (2024), Norma at Opéra national du Rhin (2024), Romeo and Juliet at MusikTheater an der Wien (2024), Turandot at Semperoper Dresden (2023), and Cassandra at La Monnaie / De Munt in Brussels (2023).
