Set and Graphic Designer MĀRTIŅŠ VILKĀRSIS studied set-design at the Rēzekne Art and Design High School. He later studied at the Art Academy of Latvia in its Department of Graphic Design, as well as in A. Freibergs’ scenography master workshop. Currently a freelance artist, he was formerly the Advertising Director for the Daile Theatre (2001-2001), the Chief Designer of the Riga Russian Theatre (2003-2004), the Chief Designer for the Daile Theatre (2007-2010) and Art Director for the Daile Theatre (2010-2011). He is behind the scenography for numerous performances at the Daile Theatre, Valmiera Theatre, Latvian National Theatre, Mikhail Chekhov Riga Russian Theatre, Liepāja Theatre, Theatre TT and the New Riga Theatre. In addition to his work in Latvia, he has designed sets for performances in Russia, Lithuania, Estonia, Kazakhstan and Japan.
He also designed the sets for the Latvian National Ballet’s productions of Don Quixote, Anna Karenina, Karlsson Flies and Pictures at an Exhibition (Bolero...), as well as for the Latvian National Opera’s production of Manon Lescaut.
