ANDRIS FREIBERGS is the honored set designer of the Latvian National Opera. He has created sets for more than 200 productions not just at the LNO, but at the other Latvian and foreign theatres in Estonia, Lithuania, Russia, Armenia, Poland, Germany, Venezuela, Italy and other countries. Among many awards the artist has received are the Order of the Three Stars (2003), the silver medal of the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space for his stage design for Penderecki and Bach's Credo at the Estonia Theatre (1995), The Great Latvian Music Award for the production of Handel’s Alcina (1998), Best Set Designer of Estonia (2003), seven Spēlmaņu nakts Awards for the Best Set Design and one for the Best Costume Design, two Golden Medals for students‘ exhibitions at the Prague Quadrennial (2007, 2011), the highest Italian theatre award Il Premio Ubu (2010), The 2015 Excellence Award of the Latvian National Council of Culture, and others. The exhibitions of his works have taken place in Riga, Cracow and Moscow. Lecturer at the Latvian Academy of Arts (since 1971), Professor (since 1996), Honorary Member of Russian Academy of Arts (2015).
