Liudmyla Monastyrska

LIUDMYLA MONASTYRSKA’s rich, dramatic soprano first caught the attention of the press and audiences in 1996 in Kiev, with her strong performance as Tatiana in Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. The Ukranian-born singer is acclaimed worldwide for her powerful, compelling performances combined with a superb technical command. Since her shining debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as the lead role in Puccini’s Tosca (2010), Monastyrska’s relationships with opera houses throughout Europe, America and Asia continue to grow. 2017/2018 season highlights include Monastyrska’s debut with the Los Angeles Opera as Abigaille in Verdi’s Nabucco, as well as her debut with the Houston Grand Opera as the lead role in Bellini’s Norma. In turn, she will perform with the Deutsche Oper Berlin as both Tosca and Abigaille, and will round out her season in the title role of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut in a new production at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. Her other notable performances this year include the title role in a new production of Placido Domingo’s Aida: The Stadium World Tour. Monastyrska’s performances also include the roles of Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana), Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Leonora (La forza del destino), Elisabeth von Valois (Don Carlo), Odabella (Attila) and Amelia (Un ballo in maschera), among others. Monastyrska has performed with the New York Metropolitan Opera, the Opera Nacional de Paris, the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Royal Opera House in London, the Vienna State Opera, Milan’s La Scala, the Puccini Festival in Torre de Lago, Italy, the Salzburg Easter Festival and more. She has worked with numerous talented conductors, including Placido Domingo, James Levine, Fabio Luisi, Joseph Colaneri, Simone Young and Antonio Pappano, among others. Before launching her international career with her notable performances, Monastyrska spent several years as the principal soloist at the Ukraine National Opera. She lives with her family in Kiev.
