The Ring Cycle

The Ring Cycle

During the time period from 1837 to 1839 Richard Wagner was the first chapel-master of the Riga City Theatre. It was here, in Riga, that Wagner began to compose his opera Rienzi.  In 2013, to celebrate composer's 200th anniversary, the Latvian National Opera will perform the complete Der Ring des Nibelungen cycle.

Stage director Stefan Herheim and conductor Andris Nelsons created Das Rheingold in the 2006. Next three productions were created by the stage director Viestur Kairish: Die Walküre (2007) with conductor Andris Nelsons and set designer Ilmārs Blumbergs, Siegfried (2008) and Götterdämmerung (2011) with conductor Cornelius Meister and set designer Ieva Jurjāne.

Der Ring des Nibelungen cycle will be performed twice during the period of time from May 28 to June 9, 2013.

May 28, June 4 – Das Rheingold
