Jochen Breiholz

JOCHEN BREIHOLZ was born in Oldenburg, Germany. After graduating from high school, he moved to Berlin to study literature, theatre history, musicology and art history. A year later he moved to New York where he did internships in several theatres including the Metropolitan Opera. He became an intern at Opera News magazine which led to his assignment as a writer for this publication.
 
After three-and-a-half years in New York, he returned to Berlin to continue and complete his studies. At the same time he continued working as a correspondent and music critic for Opera News. He graduated from university with a Master's Degree in literature and theatre.
 
After working as a dramaturge in Berlin, he joined Opernwelt magazine as a frequent contributor and freelance editor. In 1997 he became a writer for the German daily Die Welt and subsequently joined this newspaper's staff as an editor for the arts section.
 
He moved back to New York in 2002 as a correspondent for European arts and music magazines and newspapers. Besides Opera News, Opernwelt and Die Welt, Jochen Breiholz has also been contributing to London's Opera Now, The Wall Street Journal Europe, the Swiss magazine Musik & Theater, and the German Rondo magazine.
 
In 2004 he joined the team of the New York casting company NYIOP International as a talent scout for young opera singers.
 
From autumn 2006 until summer 2011, Jochen Breiholz was the LNO's Head of International Relations. He also worked at the company as dramaturge.
