Normunds Vaicis

NORMUNDS VAICIS is a graduate of the Emils Darzins Music School and chorus conducting Dept. of the Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music. He continued his studies at the opera and symphony orchestra conducting class of Vasilijs Sinaiskis and Rihards Glāzups.
 
Normunds Vaicis has furthered his professional skills with Ilya Musin and Yuri Simonov; received an award of the North Hungarian Symphony Orchestra The Favourite Conductor.
 
Regularly performs together with the Latvian Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. Being the Artistic Director of the Jurmala International Young Pianists Competition, Normunds Vaicis has interpreted almost all Mozart's piano concertos. He has led the Emīls Darzins Music School Symphony Orchestra (1995-2001). Since 2000 is the conductor of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.
 
Still being a student of the Latvian Academy of Music, Vaicis made his debut at the Latvian National Opera. His repertory includes more than 20 operas, among them Verdi's operas Otello, La Traviata, Rigoletto, Nabucco, Bellini's Norma, Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana, Puccini's Suor Angelica, Madama Butterfly, Bizet's Carmen, Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer, Rubinstein`s The Demon.
 
He has participated in guest performances in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Hungary, England, Holland, Belgium and Taiwan.
