About the LNOB

The Latvian National Opera and Ballet performs the functions of State Theatre for the promotion and development of the genre of opera and ballet. In shaping and implementing the artistic policy of the theatre, which was established in 1918, the institution has been led by the Chairman of the Board Egils Siliņš since 2019, together with Board members Inese Eglīte and Sandis Voldiņš, as well as the Chief Conductor Mārtiņš Ozoliņš and the Artistic Director of the Latvian National Ballet Aivars Leimanis.

The Latvian National Opera and Ballet’s productions highlight the values of classical and romantic art, while also seeking contemporary forms of expression. The Latvian National Opera and Ballet is open to the Latvian public and to the world: it gives guest performances and regularly collaborates with many outstanding guest soloists, conductors, choreographers, directors, stage designers, costume designers, and lighting and video designers, both at home and abroad.

The Great Hall, designed by architect Ludwig Bohnstedt and built in 1863, seats 952 people, while the New Hall, designed by architect Juris Gertmanis and completed in 2001, seats 241.
